Tom: E major
Verse 1
G
Come all ye Texas Rangers
wherever you may be.
I'll tell you of some troubles
G
D
My name is nothing extra,
And here's to all you Rangers,
D
G
D
I'm sure I wish you well.
G
Was at the age of seventeen I
joined the jolly band.
We marched round San Antonio down
D
G
to the Ryo Grande.
D
Our Captain, he informed us,
G
perhaps he thought it right.
D
Before we reach the station boys, you'll
G
D
surely have to fight.
G
And when the bugle sounded our
Captain gave command.
To arms, to arms he shouted,
D
and by your horses stand.
G
D
G
I saw the smoke as cending; it seemed
to reach the sky.
D
And then the thought it struck me,
G
D
my time had come to die.
G
I saw the Indians coming; I
heard them give a yell.
My feelings at that moment
D
no human tongue can tell.
G
D
I saw their glittering lances,
G
their arrows 'round me flew.
And all my strength had left me,
D
G
D
and all my courage too.
G
We fought for nine hours fully,
before the strife was o'er.
The likes of dead and wounded,
G
D
And when the sun had risen,
G
and the Indians they had fled.
D
We loaded up our rifles and
G
D
counted up our dead.
G
And all of us were wounded,
our noble Captain slain.
The sun was shining sadly across
Sixteen, the brave Rangers that
D
Were buried by their comrades
G
D
with arrows in their breast.
G
And now my song is ended,
D
I guess I've sung enough.
G
The life of any Ranger you
G
D
And if you have a Mother that
D
I'd advise you by experience,
G
D
you'd better stay at home
