Just down
the
road from me,
there's a big holler tree,
where you lay down a dollar or two.
Then you go round the bend,
when you come back again,
there's a jug full of
good old mountain dew.
Oh, they call it that old mountain dew
And them that refuse it are a few, are a few
I'll hush up my mug if you'll
fill up my jug
With that good old mountain
dew
Watch out now, boy,
you're about to get too hot there.
My Uncle Bill's got a still on the hill
Where he runs off a gallon or two
Little birds in the sky get drunk,
they can't fly from smellin'
that good old mountain dew
Oh, they call it that old mountain dew,
and them that refuse it are few
I'll hush up my mug if you'll
fill up my jug
with that good old mountain dew
I seen Mr. Roosevelt
and I asked him how'd he felt
When he heard that that
dry law went through
If your liquor's too red it'll swell
up your head
You better stick to that
good old Mountain Dew
Oh, they call it that old
Mountain Dew
Give me some too
And them that refuse it are a few
I'll hush up my mug if you'll
fill up my jug
With that good ol' mountain
dew
Preacher come by with
his head high
Stood high said his wife had
been down
With the flu plum sick
And he said he thought I ought
To fill him up a quart
With that good ol' Mountain Dew
My Uncle Nort, he sawed off in short
Yes, he only measured four foot two
But he thinks he's a giant
When you give him a pint
Of that good ol' Mountain Dew
Oh, they call it that good ol'
Mountain Dew
And them that refuse it are due
I'll hush up my mug if you fill up my jug
with that good old Mountain Dew.
I had a request a minute ago
for an old tune
that the Carter family used to play a long time ago let
me hunt out that that pig yolk that I had now.
Uncle Ben Miller used to call this
thing a pig yolk
that you put on the neck there and I never he
never did explain to me what a pig yolk was
and one time when
I was in California
Bill Monroe told me what it was used to
they built them old rail fences
you know and and
they'd turn the hogs out
in the main pasture where the cattle was when after they passed a
stock law that is
and they had to put them up off
the mash in the woods
but the pig yolk was the thing
that they made out of a little forked
stick
and a piece of leather string
and put it around his neck
so he couldn't crawl
through the cracks of the fence.
Didn't keep them fenced in,
boy, they'd root up
all the corn.
This tune that I was gonna play
that the Carter family
used to play a whole lot, only they,
I think that one of them played
a dobro guitar on this,
and I'm afraid I ain't a dobro picker,
so I'm gonna have to
pick it another way.
It's a tune called Darling Pal
of Mine.
and they did use the dobro
guitar
and an autoharp on this.
