I hope you're enjoying the Sheryl Crow
thread's album release special
And when you look at the people
on this album
It is just so incredible, and you have to think about the fact
that they all agreed to participate
Because they respect Sheryl as an artist, they like
her as a person
So when she asked, they said, "Yes"
And one guy that said yes, and she's actually had a chance to work with him a lot in her life,
is Willie Nelson
So let's talk about "Lonely
Alone"
Lonely Alone is a song that I wrote with Willie in mind
And I called up my buddy Shane McAnally, I said,
"I wanna write a song that is worthy of Willie Nelson"
Which, I think is, almost
impossible
He's written some of the
greatest songs ever written
And I think people don't realize that
he's a writer that he's had songs
He's had hits in every genre
He's had jazz songs, blues songs, country songs,
rock songs that have made it on the charts in every genre
I mean, he's just amazing and he's still
out there doing it
And he's also been an unbelievable friend to me and he's also been,
really, my favorite duet partner for years
So much so, that when I was going through LAX coming from Europe and going
through Customs and hoping they weren't gonna pick me
I got picked and I thought they were gonna go
through my luggage
But instead the guy said, "Can I give you some advice? I think
you're working with Willie Nelson a little too much"
So, I was like, "I've made it,
Willie!"
Anyway, we wrote this song called "Lonely Alone"
and it's very much like a Willie Nelson song
It's about being lonely in a bar and
not wanting to be alone and just saying
"Hey, it doesn't have to last forever,
but we don't have to be lonely alone"
And he just killed it, he just brought his "willieness" to it and
Mickie Raphael played on it and it just gives it that great Willie Nelson sound
