Tom: Ab major
Verse 1
G
You know, I look at the story.
You know, you may have heard it a lot of times,
but it's an amazing story.
It's the story of David and Goliath.
You know, David's up against some
incredible odds
that seem impossible.
I mean, the whole Israelite army
was scared to fight this giant
named Goliath.
You know, how do you beat
a man that's stronger than you,
bigger than you are,
more trained and advanced in the art
of battle than you?
You know, how do you go up
against something like that?
There's no way David
should have won that fight.
Even King Saul said,
he didn't even believe him at first,
he was like, man you're too young,
you can't go fight
this guy, are crazy?
But David got some inspiration.
You know, he knew that
if he killed Goliath
there'd be a prize in it,
he'd be able to get Saul's daughter
and for a teenager
that's the only inspiration
you need to get the
girl, come on.
And on the other side of it
he heard Goliath defying his God that who he
F
loves and he strongly believes
and he's like,
G
yo, you talking about my God like that man?
You want to go right now?"
He got amped up and he was like,
yo
I ain't just gonna sit
there and take that.
I'm gonna do something about this.
He got stoked.
I believe that David had three things
going for him in this fight
so that he could do
the seemingly impossible.
Number one, he knew
who he was.
He was a child of God.
I believe he said under his breath
when he was getting ready,
even before he started walking out there,
he's like, if God is for me,
who could be against me?
If God is for me,
who could be against me?
Some of Psalms that guy, you know,
would have written was like, you know, even though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death,
I'll fear no evil.
You know, your rod and your staff,
they comfort me. I can do
this.
You know, and he did.
You know, number two,
he had boldness, man.
He didn't care what other people thought
of him.
You know, there comes a point in time
in life we got to stop caring
F
what other people think of us.
G
If we want to do the impossible,
we've got to go
where we're afraid to go.
You know, do what we're
afraid to do
and realize that every time
we run away
Because we're scared to
do something big
we let an opportunity pass us by
but not David
You know he knows
there's always gonna be haters
and critics and people jealous.
You know look at his brothers, man
They're all hating on him when he arrived
like what are you doing here, man?
It's just cuz they were so insecure,
C
but critics love to criticize
G
that which they're scared
to do themselves
They love to criticize.
That's what they do.
They're called critics.
You know I knew I got a new idea
Recently about myself
F
that when I'm scared to do something
G
You know, I started to realize
if I'm scared to do something
or talk to somebody,
I started to realize like,
is this person going to cry
at my funeral?
Are they even going
to be at my funeral
in the first place?
You know, if they're
not going to be at my funeral
or care if I even die,
why do I care what they think?
F
Why do I care what they think?
And that was David's attitude.
You know, number three,
and this is a big one,
man, he took action.
He stepped out in faith
that God had his back.
You know,
sometimes we don't realize
the doubts we have
or, you know, the doubts David
had.
You know, but one thing is for sure,
he didn't let that stop
him from going for it.
Sometimes we need to act
despite our fears
and that's a definition of courage.
That's a definition
of taking action
and go for it.
Going for it.
You know, he gave all he knew to do
and he let God
take care of the rest.
I'm telling you, action is the
key to success
C
and doing the impossible.
G
You see, God can work with something,
but he can't work with nothing.
He needs you to move and get there,
and even if you're going in the wrong direction,
you can course correct.
F
You know, I've heard it's a lot
G
easier to turn a moving ship
than it is one that's standing still.
C
G
You know how this story ends.
Goliath is mocking him
because he comes at him with a stick
and a sling.
He's like, what's going
on, man?
This guy ain't playing
like the other guys normally play.
And David starts swinging
that sling around
and he flings that stone
at Goliath's head
G
and it sinks into him and kills
him.
G
And then thousands of people
are marveled around
G
C
like, whoa, what just happened man?
How did you do that?
That was impossible.
Are you crazy?
And it was impossible,
but he took action.
And that's one of the number
one keys is taking action
and just going for it to do the impossible.
